If the classroom has a prevalence of a certain nationality, it may be beneficial to use examples from their background that they understand. They are more comfortable with it, and as they are able to work with it, their confidence will increase. This can be from English, to the examples used in a math problem, to the materials tested in a science class.

The best way of building confidence in students is to give them a positive experience with a good comfort level, and the confidence will come with it, or will maintain itself it they have a good level of confidence. If they have not attained a positive experience yet, the teacher can work with them to find the positive. This may include working one on one afterwards, or assigning extra work for them to work through to practice the principle. That may be enough for building confidence in students, but never let the student think the extra work is a punishment, as that will work to decrease the confidence level.

One if the biggest issues with students is the pressure they place on themselves, and if they are not able to attain the goal then their confidence can and will go down. When teachers do not have to work on building confidence in students, they can really make a difference as they are able to push them even further than they could before, and push the limits. These students already show their confidence and you can move them further along with more praise.
